PORTO - The best European teams in three-cushion once again compete for the European Cup in Porto this week. The annual Coupe D'Europe, traditionally held in FC Porto billiard arena, starts Wednesday, June 26, with the preliminary rounds. Five groups of four teams compete, with the best teams playing for the title in the final rounds with the title holder FC Porto. The qualifications are until Friday, June 28, with the main tournament on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30.
FC Porto's champion team includes Dick Jaspers, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Manuel Rui Costa and Jose Miguel Soares. The main competitors are FBN Tekstil Spor Kulubu with Tayfun Tasdemir, Berkay and Omer Karakurt and Gökhan Salman, Varde BK with Eddy Merckx, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Dion Nelin, Allan Schrøder and Thomas Andersen and Billard Club Andernosien with Marco Zanetti, Roland Forthomme, Gwendal Maréchal and Jérôme Barbeillon.
For the Netherlands, the Cues&Darts team will play with Ruben Legazpi and Pierre Soumagne leading the way. For Belgium, two teams are competing in the preliminary rounds: Mister 100 with Peter Ceulemans as captain and BC Herstalien with Thomas Broux. Other Dutchmen and Belgians are playing in other teams, such as Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx, Roland Forthomme, Jeffrey Jorissen, Glenn Hofman, Jean Paul de Bruijn and Johan Loncelle.
The organization is in the hands of the Federacao Portuguesa de Biljar.
