CHARTRES - Bernard Villiers (Ronchin) has won the 3rd and final French tournament in one cushion in Chartres this weekend in a brilliant final against Xavier Le Roy, who reached 120 points in the 8th inning. That forced Villiers, who was on 77 points, to equalize with 43. He succeeded, making it to 120-120 and Villiers grabbed the win 2-1 in the shootout.
The later winner was also trailing 36-102 after five innings after a run of 62 by Le Roy. Villiers finished the regular game 40-1-43.
It was the 15th national tournament won by Bernard Villiers, nicknamed 'Pitbull' since his first success in Andernos in 2001. He joins Alain Remond as the top scorer in national tournaments in this game type. Bernard Villiers was 3rd in the run-up with two wins over Pascal Dessaint with 100-47 in 14 and Patrick Dupont with 100-54 in 9.
On Sunday, he beat Jordan Aubert 120-82 in 22 in the quarter-finals and then dominated local Johann Girard 120-71 in 21 in the semi-finals.
Bernard Villiers finishes 2nd in the season standings with 132 points behind the untouchable Jacky Justice, two-time winner of a tournament this season, with 198 points. The Ronchin player has an overall average of 7.56.
