The final qualification round of the Ankara World Cup concluded on Thursday, completing the 32-player field for the main event. After four days of qualifying action and more than one hundred players battling through successive stages, only sixteen survived to earn a place alongside the world's elite.
The day produced outstanding performances from established stars, emerging talents and a few familiar names making a successful return to the main draw.
Bao Phuong Vinh tops the rankings
Vietnam's Bao Phuong Vinh finished as the strongest performer of the qualification round, winning Group C with an excellent 2.105 general average. The former world champion confirmed his impressive form by dominating one of the toughest groups of the day and securing the highest ranking among all qualifiers.
Only one other player managed to reach the 2.000 mark: South Korea's Heo Jung Han, who topped Group A with an even 2.000 average, including two high runs of 12.
Turkey's Omer Karakurt continued the strong showing of the host nation by qualifying with 1.777, while Spain's Ruben Legazpi secured first place in Group E at 1.666.
Tom Löwe keeps the momentum going
One of the biggest stories of the qualification campaign has been the performance of Germany's Tom Löwe.
After posting the best average of the PQ round on Wednesday, the German once again delivered when it mattered most. Löwe won Group L and secured his place in the main draw, completing an impressive run through the qualification stages.
While his average of 1.142 was lower than the spectacular numbers he produced the previous day, his consistency throughout the week has established him as one of the most dangerous players emerging from the qualifiers.
His reward is a challenging place in Group H of the main draw alongside Tran Thanh Luc, Berkay Karakurt and fellow qualifier Pierre Soumagne.
Blomdahl survives a dramatic group
Perhaps the most eye-catching name among Thursday's qualifiers was Swedish legend Torbjörn Blomdahl.
The multiple-time world champion found himself in a highly competitive Group J featuring South Korea's Choi Wan Young and Austria's Gerhard Kostistansky. Blomdahl eventually secured first place despite collecting only two match points, thanks largely to a superb overall average of 2.151, the highest individual figure recorded in any group.
His qualification adds even more star power to a main draw already packed with world-class talent.
Main draw takes shape
The completion of the qualification phase has produced several fascinating groups for the tournament's next stage.
Group C features a blockbuster lineup with world number one Dick Jaspers, South Korean star Kim Haeng Jik, Turkey's Gokhan Salman and qualifier Maxime Panaia.
Another standout group brings together Eddy Merckx, Bao Phuong Vinh, Jean Paul de Bruijn and Tolgahan Kiraz in what promises to be one of the most balanced sections of the draw.
Fans will also be watching Group D closely, where Blomdahl faces Dutchman Glenn Hofman, Turkish star Tayfun Tasdemir and qualifier Omer Karakurt.

After four demanding days of qualification, the Ankara World Cup now enters its most anticipated phase. The world's leading players finally enter the arena, but several qualifiers have already demonstrated that they are capable of challenging the established hierarchy. Based on what they have shown this week, Bao Phuong Vinh, Heo Jung Han and Tom Löwe may be far more than just survivors from the qualification rounds.
