ANTALYA - Italian Andrea Quarta won the European 5-pins championship this Monday in a hard-fought final. It was his 5th European title for Quarta after winning the world title twice. The championship was part of the mega European championships in Antalya.
The final against his compatriot Paolo Marcolin was played over five sets: first 2-0, then 2-2, on which Quarta won the decisive set: 60-39, 60-33, 59-60, 43-60, 60-35. Andrea Quarta is the reigning world champion (2022) and also a two-time world champion (2008 his first). He succeeds Michelangelo Aniello, last year's winner.
Andrea Quarta consecutively defeated Luxembourger Gérard Goedert (2-0), Czech Jan Dvorajek (2-0), Czech Peter Markup in the sixteenth round (3-0), Frenchman Florian Guingand in the eighth round (3-0), German Max Gabel in the quarter (3-2), his compatriot and defending champion Michelangelo Aniello in the semi-final (3-2) and Paolo Marcolin in the final (3-2).
