GOYANG - The PBA's team league starts today with a total of nine teams and is played at the PBA Kintex Stadium in Goyang. All the PBA and LPBA star players have joined the teams, which will be in action in both individual matches and doubles. Matches consist of seven games: two doubles, one Scotch Double and four singles.
The BlueOn Resort (Angels) team is the defending champion, with David Zapata, Can Capak and Sruong Pheavy among its top players. The previous team league involved 177 matches and a total of over 1.000 games. Angels won the decisive match against Phoenix (Caudron) 4-1. The winners were awarded 73,000 euros and celebrated the success with a holiday to Spain, the country of frontrunner David Zapata. Phoenix received the runner-up prize of 36,500 euros. At the time, the two teams together donated 80,000 euros for the earthquake victims in Turkey.
The new season starts without Frédéric Caudron as Phoenix's frontman and also Filippos Kasidokostas has left the PBA leagues. Phoenix's frontman is now Birol Uymaz, the Turkish player who scores high in the individual tournaments. Last season's nrs. 1 and 2 open this year's team league: Phoenix against Blue Angels including the David Zapata-Birol Uymaz and Sruong Pheavy against Ye-eun Kim games.
Hana Card continues the schedule against SY Bazar including Nguyen Quoc Nguyen-Dani Sánchez and Murat Naci Coklu against Yoeong hun Lee. Next, Huons plays against SK Rent a Car with Semih Sayginer against Eddy Leppens and Javier Palazon against Keon-hwi Cho. The fourth match is between High Resort and Crown Hatai with Lütfi Cenet against David Martinez.
